Dear P2,

One year ago on October 7, the world saw the face of evil.

Hamas terrorists unleashed the worst attack on Jewish people since the Holocaust.

A year on, we remember those innocent Jewish civilians who lost their lives in this horrifying attack driven by pure hatred.

When I stood in their homes and the places they were murdered earlier this year, I was moved and angered beyond words.

That was compounded by seeing the footage of the evil murders taken by the murderers themselves.

I saw the terrorists celebrate while they defiled the lifeless bodies in front of hate-filled crowds baying for more blood.

So we pray for the victims and their families and for peace.

But we also must use this anniversary to be clear eyed about what else has transpired since the October 7 terror attack.

Because you and I might know that there is absolutely no justification for the rape of girls and women, cold blooded murder of innocent men, women and children.

But it has been shocking to witness there are people in the Australian community who apparently don’t feel the same.

How else do you explain the marches in the streets less than 48 hours after October 7 in support of Hamas and the terrorists.

When bodies were still being counted and victims were being identified – before any military response from Israel at all – we had people in our streets celebrating.

In the last year it has become clear that many in our country have ignorantly and dangerously fallen for the propaganda of the terrorists who are engaged in the continuation of the work of the Nazis.

Anti-Semitism, which lay dormant, has come to life.

And it’s been enabled by a Prime Minister and government who have failed miserably to condemn the words and actions of those driven by hatred.

There is no place for the evil of terrorism in Australia.

There is no place for anti-Semitism in Australia.

That should be a basic principle.

And I can tell you that as long as I have breath in my lungs I will fight to ensure terrorism does not take hold in our nation.

But I wish I could say the same for this current government whose weasel words and lack of leadership have let this social division grow.

It’s now time to say enough.

Enough of the gullibility and ignorance because it is this that terrorists rely on to carry out their agenda.

Enough of the allowances made for people who celebrate hatred and violence.

And enough bowing to activist pressure on support for Israel.

The government should be clear: demand a return of the hostages and defend Israel’s right to exist.

One year on, that is the moral imperative.

It’s up to the government to take a stand.
