Ads; Spam and 'Bots'.
#1

We have had a little problem with various, nefarious types of people who try to place 'junk' on this site. Please, if you can, run some sort of Ad blocker and protection. The last 'Hack' cost a fair wallop to fix and we notice there are more 'trackers' and 'advertisements' hanging about the site.

Aunt Pru does not carry any advertisement at all - so if you see one, please let us know.

We seem to have inherited a team of supposedly harmless 'crawlers', which should not concern the fastidious.  We do our level best to keep the site 'free and clear' - but, should you encounter anything 'not Kosher' let us know - soonest.

That's it - take care.

Cheers P7 -a.k.a. TOM..

Apologies for any inconvenience yesterday while the site was down. There was a problem at the server end (SSL cock-up), and was not 'sinister'. All better now, thanks to our great webmaster.

Normal service restored. (fingers crossed)...

The 'Tech-guru's have been busy over the weekend; there were some 'things' (above my pay grade) which needed their attention. We should be 'good to go' now; but, please let us know (PM) if you encounter any weird stuff or difficulty.

Toot - toot.

Sorted - (kinda)...

Sorry about the down time; AP went in for a major overhaul - you know the rest of the story; all highly technical and beyond my agricultural approach to 'matters computer'. There will be another short hiatus, hopefully next week when the final parts arrive.

Thanks for your patience -

Best to all - Toot toot...

The time has come;

as 'the Walrus' for the BRB to talk of many things. In particular, whether to keep the AP site running or to consign it to history and walk away.

There are three solid arguments for shutting it down; (a) tonight and every day for the the last at least twelve months; typically there are (on average) 230 'bots doing little else but parking, - marking forums as 'read' or no permissions page. The IP's are all data centers, Singapore, and America with some other 'odds and sods' thrown in. Not only do they present a potential 'threat' but they neither help or promote or do bugger all but seriously mess up the real statistics. Item (b) there exist quite a long list of banned IP a addresses, belonging 'Spammer' and other potential threats; a daily check presents a list of the 'blacklisted', the banned and other unsavory types trying to 'register'. Sorting this out is a constant headache and has gotten to a stage where we simply dare not accept a new registration; a serious matter to keep the site not only usable, but 'safe' for the punters. No kidding, it is a grim battle. Item © The site has not attracted much in the way of industry support and has made zero impression in any way on the ridiculous antics of spineless politicians or the mindless bureaucrats who just can't seem to 'get it'.

So; the BRB will discuss the proposal a vote will be taken and the decision will be final and executed  immediately after the meeting. Members should post any comments/ opinions/ suggestions on site, this thread; before Nov. 15 2024. BRB scheduled 16/11 plug pulled day slated for 17/11.

Last chance – speak now or forever hold your peace.

Sadly, merely publishing some material that exposes incompetence or skullduggery - even if the consequences of the circumstances are an increase in risk to the safety of air navigation - is insufficient to draw much attention much less precipitate corrective action. Sadly these days, there has to be some political advantage before you'll get the attention of and action from those who have some influence over what is - in essence - the 'baked in' culture of government agencies. Politicians don't know what they don't know and, more importantly, the seasoned veterans among them know what they don't want to find out.
