To all members
It is pleasing to hear that large maintenance facilities like QANTAS are employing max numbers of apprentices next year.
The B1.1 and B2 training programs are available for this sector to employ apprentices.
Our October Breaking News highlights the lack of NVET apprentice training programs for the helicopter and non-pressurised aeroplanes sectors.
It has become obvious that written arrangements that CASA and its predecessors, starting with DCA, had with skills training authorities no longer exists.
My personnel involvement when in CASA started with the Australian National Training Authority followed up with a written arrangement with MERS-ITAB when the government replaced ANTA with ITABs. Obviously when ITABS were replaced by Australian Skills Qualification Authority no written agreement between CASA and ASQA can be place.
If the agreement was in place ASQA would have had the GA aeroplane and helicopter pathways available in the late 2000s.
How can these sectors employ apprentices when there are no NVET courses.
This is the real reason why there is a shortage of AMEs and LAMEs in these sectors.
If there was an arrangement in place with ASQA there would be no reason for CASA to approve ASQA RTOs.
Read our Breaking News for more detail
Other trades regulators have written arrangements with ASQA.
They have VET training courses.
