During the Sunday display at Warbirds over Scone, Phil was forced to deal with an unplanned engine failure in the deHaviland Tiger Moth.

What followed was a real-world demonstration of fundamental flying skills.

With the engine no longer producing power, Phil tried an air-start with no success. Immediately, height, position, and judgement mattered. There was no reset, no second-attempt - and with thousands of people watching the pressure was on!!

Phil transitioned from aerobatic display to controlled glide approach, positioning the aircraft for landing demonstrating disciplined control inputs.

This is the reality behind training: we practice for times when things don't go right so that the basics will carry us through!
