Cheers 'V' looks like they are cracking on; that sea floor data, stand alone, is of great value. Amazing technology and science. Hope for the best and fingers crossed. Now; I don't want to be a 'croaker' however, seems to me there is an element of this 'search & investigation' missing. Simply put, the ages old question of “why did the chicken cross the road” has not been fully answered.
The 'means and opportunity' to get this 'done' were a given; but what of motive? In short; why? Say the Skipper (for sake of argument only) had an Axe to grind; he has a valuable aircraft, 239 lives and a plan to 'make a point'.
Perp - “Buy every kid an ice cream – or else”.
Gov't – Get stuffed hairy legs.
Impasse; but I wonder at the orbit close in before heading off South intrigues me. That would seem to be a good position to 'prove' that (a) the aircraft was under 'flight deck control', and (b) had indeed been 'hi-jacked' and © the demands made were indeed 'serious'. Personally, if I had received any communication of that nature; I would take it seriously, probably scramble a jet or two and keep the aircraft in range. Was there any communication at this juncture? If not, then why waste fuel hanging about, fuel which could be used to travel some additional miles off the 'plot' running 'dark'. These are questions which still beg answers (IMO).
Motive: the Why of it all, what caused this chicken to cross that road? Why the elaborate 'computer' plans and simulations left carelessly behind for the world and its' wife to find? What could so deeply affect an otherwise 'normal' rational man to plan and execute such a plan? To what end? It don't pass the pub test; not by a long shot it don't.
The Boffins have done some brilliant work (well done) millions spent in search (Bravo); the current crew out there right now doing magnificent work (Kudos); but my mind keeps going back the AMSAR, ATSB, Dolan days and I still wonder at the motivation for that pantomime. The solution (IMO) resides firmly in one or perhaps two minds lost to us. There are other more valid means of protest; but, to me the 'killer' question is 'Why' – what could motivate such an action? The answer may not bring much relief to those 'left behind' for the aircraft has indeed vanished. Was this a vainglorious gesture? If it was, then it achieved little, if it was not, then the questions demand answers, real ones. Those answers are not within the carcass of MH370; find the man, the motive and the 'why' of it all.
