Hitch, and his three hat trick.
Three very good 'Last Minute Hitch' articles in a row earns Hitch his third 'Choc Frog' which qualifies him for a Tim-Tam packet. First rate stuff, even the deadly boring paragraph on VTOL and eVTOLS is at least informative – although what to do with the info is set aside for another day. Well done Hitch..
Right then, with that out of the way, there are some matters which merit attention. Although not true, the saying 'Nero fiddled while Rome burned' is applicable to the muddied, confounded and confused manner in which our very (very) expensive autonomous agencies are 'managing' the air transport sector of this wide brown land. In short – it is a Buggers - Muddle. The report on ASA couched in delicate language clearly defines the tangled mess on board that pleasure cruise to nowhere. Separate contracts indeed, Hah!.
CASA - now firmly focused on the Jetsons' futuristic fantasy , while in the real world there are some serious matters to be dealt with; quite a long list of 'matters' which prevent investment, industry growth and harmonisation with world class standards. There is also a thinly veiled element which could be sheeted home to a lack of positive accident prevention though the 'tick-a-box' system, supporting abrogation of all responsibility. ATSB has, in a small, timid way, pointed to systematic failure and other matters which CASA is obliged address: i.e the fully preventable 695 fatal event.
“Australia is a lucky country run mainly by second rate people who share its luck.”
In short, perhaps it is time for a serious look at how the aviation industry is managed and monitored through the three agencies. The right time was a good long while ago now, the longer we leave it, the worse the inevitable outcome will be. The gods alone know how much money has been spent on 'inquiry' etc over just the past decade alone; but I'd bet it would lessen the national debt significantly.
Aye well; best be off – BRB tonight, should be fun, we have a couple of mates from the USA visiting; so, the celebrations could run on a while. A 'Well done Sir' is in order methinks. Cheers DJT...
