The timing is a bit weird. I mean, I would have thought the new WA operator would have completed the sale at some point say early to mid December before delivery. But the party who lodged a complaint about the 208s maintenance (assuming when they inspected it during November or December) was on Jan 2 which was well after the keys had been handed over.
Would seem like it was in maintenance on arrival for a few days, plus did some airwork.
I somewhat doubt delayed or missed maintenance is connected to the wing drop.

ATSB may beg to differ. This from the Braidwood stall/spin crash report this links an overdue oil change to the event.

Contributing factors

• After arriving at the landing area, the pilot circled the landing area at a height of 200–400 ft above ground level.
  
• Soon after the pilot turned downwind at low airspeed with no flap selected, the aircraft’s left wing aerodynamically stalled. This resulted in the aircraft entering into an upright spin, at an altitude that limited an effective recovery.
  

Other factors that increased risk

• An airworthiness directive requiring an inspection of the engine exhaust muffler had not been completed and the aircraft was overdue for an oil change. These overdue maintenance items rendered the maintenance release invalid, which should have prevented further flight until rectified.

whale oil beef hooked, I never knew that overdue oil changes increased the “risk” of wing stalling. Engine ‘stalling’, maybe….
Linking totally unrelated factors is clutching at straws to pad out a report.

That's 'Adam and Eve' logic from the ATSB. If his parents hadn't had him, the Braidwood stall/spin pilot would not have existed. Thus the parents are a factor that increased the risk. And so on, all the way back to Adam and Eve.

The only link between engine and stall spin in those factors listed is that the aircraft should not have been flying, and had it not been flying it would not have spun in. Fair enough, CASA does seem to follow the idea that no flying means safe skies for all, so it fits the mantra.

Hang on, you may be on to something, I see where the ATSB is going. We should study the pilots breeding and genealogy, and then we can isolate the gene that leads to stall spin accidents. Only those with acceptable breeding can become pilots. Those that carry the gene will be barred from medicals by AvMed and sent to the tunnels to make parts for the war machi... er.. baby formula. Then WE WILL HAVE THE FINEST PILOTS IN THE WORLD, WE CAN NOT LOSE!.

This assertion by the ATSB was also nonsense: "These overdue maintenance items rendered the maintenance release invalid." Overdue maintenance does not, of itself, render an aircraft's MR "invalid". The aircraft may have been operated in breach of the rules, but that does not automatically mean the MR was no longer in force.

The closest I have come to being killed in an aeroplane was a skydive Caravan began, for no apparent reason, a left orbit on short final for the right runway at 300 feet while I was at the same level on final for the parallel left runway ad had to do a vertical dive to avoid a head on collision as it turned towards me. Witnesses, myself, my student, two ATC and the pilot of the Caravan all agreed on what happened. The ATSB changed it completely to "The Caravan went around on base" and closed the file. I will never, ever believe a single word they write ever again.

Bit like that Mooney crash in the hinterland behind Coffs.
"Contributing factors - The pilot was not carrying appropriate navigation equipment and had most probably not obtained weather forecasts. This reduced the pilot's ability to manage the flight path changes and identify the high terrain"......Except the report clearly states the Mooney was fitted with a GTN650.
And from the same report: "Other factors that increased risk - Although there is no evidence that it contributed to this occurrence, the pilot was taking an undisclosed medication."
Their rail reports are not much different, if that makes you feel better.

This line is more of a "goes to the character of the defendant your Honour."

if they are hiding that, what else are they hiding?
