Of Dog and Pony shows.
Yep It must be me; booze and bad living have finally disconnected the few working neurons I had remaining. For example - I seem to be loosing my sense of proportion. I’ve no idea of what it costs a day to run the CASA; not a clue about the cost of running an Estimates committee either. But, it’s a fairly safe bet that it is a large number of dollars.
Seems passing strange to me that CASA and the Senate Estimates Committee appear to have not much to discuss apart from some piddling storm in a tea cup related to Angel Flight; which in the great scheme of things hardly rates a mention. Yet there is legal fisticuffs; and questions at Estimates, gods alone know why. There is however a very nasty sub plot to this story which, should it prove to be true, has the potential to end trough time for some folk; we shall see. But I digress (neurons again).
A shed load of money spent on the AF contretemps and nary a whisper about some of the really serious matters dogging ‘safety’. The Essendon crash for example; now there is a story which merits the huge dollar cost of a Senate committee and the CASA front row. The still active potential for hundreds to be slaughtered in a building which impinges on an active runway – how can that even be legal let alone safe? The appalling lack of evacuation plan, the lack of RFFS services on site; the questions about the why and the how of this aircraft crash; what action CASA have taken to ensure there is never a repeat event – anywhere; the list goes on and on. This was and remains a very serious event – standing alone – but the implications and knock on effects of this one incident demand serious attention. There are other ‘safety’ matters which clamour for attention – again, not for the incident of itself; but for the causal chain and the prevention of reoccurrence. Lots of very valid, live safety issues begging questions and answers – but we get AF and 737 Max, quickly discussed and shelved. Exit CASA – still smiling. WTD?
Perhaps my sens’a uma is departing the fix along with proportion; but I don’t think this is anywhere near funny. There are so many serious matters outstanding, the revised Act is a bad joke, the regulations crippling an industry etc. What the hell are these Senators thinking; AMSA gets a hardly merited flogging – CASA gets a pat on the head, an ice cream and sent home early. WTD?
Ayup, must be me – ain’t it?
